Diaz College hosts Anti-Hazing Symposium: Prioritizes Student Safety

By: Marjun Ramirez

On February 11, 2026, Diaz College hosted a comprehensive Anti-Hazing Law Symposium to reinforce its commitment to student welfare and legal rights. The event was facilitated by Mr. Hubert Intan, Dr. Gilbert C. Corsame, CWTS instructors, Mrs. Jonah R. Calderon, Student Affairs and Services (SAS), and Mrs. Daisy Albina, Guidance Counselor.

The Anti-Hazing Law Symposium focused on Republic Act 11053, educating the Dcian community on the expanded definitions of hazing, which now include psychological suffering and humiliation alongside physical harm. Students learned that any form of consent or waiver is legally void, and participants in violent initiations face severe penalties like “reclusion perpetua” and heavy fines.

College officials emphasized their role as “loco parentis”, acting as second parents to ensure a secure academic environment through the Guidance and Health Services departments. By detailing the responsibilities of organization advisers to monitor all rites, the symposium fostered a culture of accountability and transparency. This proactive initiative demonstrates that Diaz College views education as the ultimate tool against organizational violence, ensuring that every student’s safety and development remain the institution’s highest priorities
